Tiffany & Co: American Jewellery Since 1837

Tiffany & Co. was founded in New York City in 1837 by Charles Lewis Tiffany, originally as a stationery and fancy goods store before evolving into one of the world's most recognised fine jewellery houses.

Its trademarked robin's-egg blue -- officially "Tiffany Blue" -- has adorned the brand's boxes and bags for well over a century and remains one of the most recognisable colours in retail.

The Setting That Changed Engagement Rings Forever

In 1886, Tiffany & Co. introduced the Tiffany Setting, a six-prong solitaire mount that lifted a diamond above the band to maximise light and brilliance.

It remains the industry-standard engagement ring setting to this day, a rare example of a single design fundamentally reshaping an entire category of jewellery.

Elsa Peretti and the Return to Tiffany Legacy

Designer Elsa Peretti joined Tiffany & Co. in 1974 and went on to create some of the house's most enduring silhouettes, including the sculptural Bean and Open Heart pendants, prized for their fluid, organic minimalism.

Alongside Peretti's designs, the Return to Tiffany collection, launched in 1969 with its heart-shaped tag, remains one of the brand's most consistently popular lines across necklaces, bracelets and chokers.
