Roger Vivier: The Man Who Invented the Stiletto

French shoe designer Roger Vivier began his career in the 1930s and later collaborated closely with Christian Dior through the 1950s, where he is widely credited with inventing the modern stiletto heel -- earning him the nickname "the Fragonard of the shoe" and cementing his place as one of the most influential footwear designers of the twentieth century.

The house that bears his name is today part of the Tod's Group.
