Miu Miu: Prada's Rebellious Younger Sister

Miu Miu was founded in 1993 by Miuccia Prada, who named the label after her own childhood nickname.

Conceived as a more playful, experimental counterpart to Prada, Miu Miu quickly carved out its own identity -- irreverent, youthful, and unafraid to mix luxury materials with a deliberately imperfect, ironic sensibility that set it apart from its parent house from day one.

Matelassé Leather and a Bow-Obsessed Aesthetic

Much of Miu Miu's signature look is built around matelassé quilted leather, used across wallets, clutches, and bags for its soft, pillowy texture, alongside recurring motifs like crystal embellishments, bows, and studded detailing on both bags and footwear.

The house has also long been a reference point for directional shoe design, from ballet flats to sculptural heels.

In recent years Miu Miu has become one of fashion's most talked-about labels again, with its low-slung skirts, cardigans, and preppy-meets-subversive styling driving a new wave of cultural relevance and cementing the "Miu Miu girl" as a recognisable aesthetic well beyond the runway.
